Mission
I’m a freelance pet writer offering services to pet magazines, animal welfare organizations, and suppliers of pet products and services. As founder and principal of Animal Grace Communications, I’m here to help your brand cut through the clutter with writing that moves readers to action.
My goal is to make readers laugh, cry, learn, or otherwise be entertained and inspired by animals and their people. I have a special interest in animal welfare and rescue, as well as natural and holistic methodologies for improving animal health and well-being.
As a freelance pet writer committed to the highest journalistic standards, I strive to communicate with simplicity, honesty, humor and feeling. My animals, other people’s animals, and animals who’ve been forgotten continually ignite my desire to share their stories; stories that I hope in some small or big way help all of us more fully experience their beauty, hilarity and pain.
I stole my career mantra from Katharine Hepburn: “If you always do what interests you, at least one person is pleased.”
Bio
For 19 years I was senior director of market communications for one of the largest privately held software companies in Silicon Valley. During that time I was responsible for writing and editing PR content, which included byline articles, blogs, media pitches, press releases, case studies, ebooks, enewsletters, company profiles, product descriptions, white papers and website copy.
I left that software company in March 2017 to become a freelance pet writer offering articles, blogs and other content about animal health, nutrition, behavior, welfare and more.
I’m the pet feature columnist for a Richmond-area community magazine drawing on 25-plus years of experience owning rescue dogs, cats, parrots and horses. I’ve logged hundreds of hours volunteering at animal welfare agencies, including the Richmond SPCA and Richmond Animal Care and Control. I also served on the board of the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation and am a member of BlogPaws, a social media community dedicated to pet writing.
I’m originally from Los Angeles and have lived in London, Tokyo, Chicago, Indianapolis and Charlottesville. I now reside in Richmond, VA where I share my house with a rescue Great Dane, Bengal cat and African Gray parrot.
